I often write on the back of paintings as I am creating them- thoughts that come to mind, words that come to me in the process. This one says on the back: “Out of nowhere... If you’re feeling stuck you may be trying too hard.”

When I’m being precious while I’m painting- holding to sections and colors and marks I like, trying not to mess them up, being careful, trying to make the painting “good,” I get all tight. The lines get tight, the painting feels forced. It stops coming from the heart.

I start trying too hard.

And when I remember that the whole point is to surrender- to be a vehicle to creativity so that it moves through me, rather trying to wield it,

The finished painting seems to come together suddenly.

I have tried my best to most accurately represent the true colors of each painting, but given the nature of different screens and how colors are represented and interpreted, please note that there may be slight differences in colors in person.
